Transportation
Transportation in Myanmar includes domestic flights, long-distance buses, trains, and boats. Within cities, taxis and ride-sharing services are common. Renting a car for self-driving is less common for foreign tourists.
Specialty cuisine
Burmese cuisine is a blend of flavors from its neighboring countries, with notable influences from Thai, Indian, and Chinese culinary traditions. Rice is the staple, served with a variety of curries, salads, and soups. Famous dishes include Mohinga (fish noodle soup) and Laphet Thoke (tea leaf salad).
Etiquette and Tipping
- Tipping is not mandatory in Myanmar but is appreciated for good service. In restaurants, it is common to leave the change or a tip of 5-10%.
- The traditional greeting is a slight bow with the word 'Mingalarbar'. A handshake is also common, especially in business settings. It is customary to remove your shoes when entering someone's home or a temple.
