Kazakhstan has a well-developed railway network, which is a comfortable and affordable option for long-distance travel. Buses also connect cities. Within cities, ride-sharing apps and taxis are popular. Renting a car is an option for exploring remote areas.
Specialty cuisine
Kazakh cuisine is traditionally focused on meat and dairy products, reflecting its nomadic roots. The national dish is Beshbarmak, consisting of finely chopped boiled meat with noodles. Other popular dishes include Kazy (horse meat sausage), Plov (pilaf), and Kumis (fermented mare's milk).
Etiquette and Tipping
- Tipping is not widespread or obligatory in Kazakhstan. However, a tip of around 10% for good service in restaurants is appreciated.
- A handshake is a common form of greeting, especially among men. It is customary to remove your shoes when entering someone's home.
