Kyrgyzstan
Located in Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan is a land of celestial mountains, stunning alpine lakes, and a rich nomadic heritage. Over 90% of the country is mountainous, dominated by the Tian Shan range, making it a paradise for trekkers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Key attractions include the vast Issyk-Kul Lake, the second-largest alpine lake in the world, the dramatic landscapes of Ala Archa National Park, and the ancient Silk Road outpost of Tash Rabat. The country's vibrant culture is deeply rooted in its nomadic traditions, with opportunities to experience yurt stays, horseback riding, and traditional eagle hunting.

Transportation
Transportation in Kyrgyzstan relies heavily on 'marshrutkas' (shared minibuses) and shared taxis, especially for travel between cities. Within cities, taxis and buses are common. Renting a car for self-drive is also a growing option for more flexibility in exploring remote areas.
Specialty cuisine
Kyrgyz cuisine reflects its nomadic roots and is hearty and flavorful. The national dish is 'beshbarmak' (five fingers), a meat and noodle dish traditionally eaten by hand. Other popular dishes include 'manti' (steamed dumplings), 'shashlik' (grilled meat skewers), and 'plov' (a rice pilaf).
Etiquette and Tipping
- Tipping is not mandatory but is a common practice to show appreciation in restaurants and for guides or drivers. A service charge is sometimes included in the bill.
- A handshake is a common form of greeting, especially among men. It is customary to remove your shoes before entering a home. Respect for elders is highly valued.
