Transportation
Transportation in Fiji is varied. On the main islands, buses and taxis are common. For travel to other islands, ferries, water taxis, and domestic flights are available. Renting a car is also a popular option for exploring larger islands like Viti Levu.
Specialty cuisine
Fijian cuisine is a fusion of Melanesian and Indian flavors. Must-try dishes include Lovo (a feast cooked in a traditional earth oven), Kokoda (a raw fish salad marinated in coconut cream), and a variety of tropical fruits. Drinking Kava (Yaqona) is an important cultural ceremony.
Etiquette and Tipping
- Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for good service. Some resorts have a communal tipping box for the staff's Christmas fund.
- A warm 'Bula!' is the standard greeting. When visiting a village, it is respectful to dress modestly (covering shoulders and knees) and bring a gift of kava (Yaqona).
