Domestic flights are the most efficient way to travel long distances, connecting major tourist destinations. Ground travel between cities is primarily by bus, while minibuses (known as 'blue donkeys') are common within cities and for shorter routes. Taxis and ride-hailing services are available in Addis Ababa.
Specialty cuisine
Ethiopian cuisine is known for its unique and rich flavors, often centered around injera, a spongy sourdough flatbread. Must-try dishes include Doro Wat (a spicy chicken stew) and Kitfo (minced raw beef). Coffee holds a central place in the culture, and the traditional coffee ceremony is a must-experience.
Etiquette and Tipping
- In restaurants, it is customary to leave a tip of around 10%. Tipping is also customary for tour guides and drivers and is appreciated based on the quality of service.
